Week 18: Cornbread (United States)

My sister came back from college, and the bread of the week that she requested was cornbread!

Did you know that Native Americans were using corn (or ground maize) thousands of years before European explorers arrived in the area?!

You can eat cornbread with stews and soups or with honey and cheese. I love drizzling some honey and adding butter on top.

Cornbread is a quick bread, but you can also eat it in the form of muffins or even strawberry shortcakes!

RECIPE:

INGREDIENTS:

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup cornmeal

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1/3 cup melted butter

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1/2 cup yogurt

STEPS:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.

  2. In a large bowl, mix together all the ingredients. Grease a cake pan or skillet with butter and pour in the cornbread mixture.

  3. Bake for 20 minutes.

Enjoy!
