Day 10: Dinner Rolls

This recipe may look daunting but it's actually a lot easier then it looks! This is such a good recipe from Cafe Delites! It even taste good with some parmesan cheese on the top of these delicious buns!

The yeast mixture should be frothy just like this.

And the butter mixture should be like this.

This is after it's been kneaded. It's smooth - not sticky.

When I opened the oven door I was so shocked that my dough had risen so much it came out of the bowl! :)

I folded the dough into balls and set them on the counter to proof again.

Finally they were done! Notice how I made 3 buns with cheese.

RECIPE: Ingredients:

1 tablespoon rapid-rise yeast

3 tablespoons white granulated sugar, divided*

1/2 cup warm water, (110-115˚F)

1 cup milk

1/4 cup butter, melted

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

4 cups bread flour, (or all purpose four), plus about 1/4 cup extra for dusting your work surface

2 tablespoons melted butter, for brushing baked rolls

Garlic Butter:

3 tablespoons of butter (melted)

4 cloves of garlic

A small handful of parsley

STEPS: Heat oven to 200°F | 100°C (if using your oven to proof the dough). Mix the yeast, 1 tablespoon of sugar and warm water in a large bowl. Let sit for 7-10 minutes until frothed.

While yeast is activating, combine the milk and butter a large bowl and microwave for 40-50 seconds. (Or if the butter is half melted and the milk is luke warm. Stir in remaining sugar and salt. Stir until the butter completely melts through the milk, and the sugar dissolves. Add to the yeast mixture in the bowl.

Add in 2 cups of flour, and combine it with a wooded spoon; add in the remaining 2 cups of flour. Mix until starting to pull away from the walls of the bowl (about 1-2 minutes). Knead for 4-5 minutes.

Transfer dough back into the bowl. Cover with a warm damp towel.

TURN OVEN OFF and transfer bowl of dough to the warm oven, leaving the door ajar for the first 10-15 minutes or so.

Knead again for 30 - 40 seconds and form into a loaf like shape. Cut in half, then cut both halves into 6 equal pieces (you should now have 12 equal pieces all together).

Lightly flatten each piece of dough in the palm of your hands, then bring up all sides to form a peak on top, and pinch and seal this peak. Flip it over and ensure that there are no cracks.

Preheat oven to 375˚F | 190˚C (or 350°F | 180°C for fan forced ovens).

Arrange rolls, smooth side up into a lightly greased 9x13-inch baking pan or dish. Lightly spray rolls with cooking oil spray, cover with plastic wrap and let rise (on the counter) again for 30 minutes.

Prepare the garlic butter by mixing the butter, garlic, and parsley. Coat the knots with the butter mixture and bake for another 15 minutes.

Bake for 15 minutes and then brush garlic butter on top of the bun. Bake for another 12 more minutes.

Enjoy!
